Debbie van Voorst

Hi everyone

hasn’t the world changed for some of us women! I never really knew where I fitted in at school but it was great to have the friendship of Gwen, Alyx and Lynne. I vaguely remember midnight skulkers (namely Phil, Kim and Nick) running their sports cars around the streets of Watson, with high exuberance. I got  a uni degree in Canberra and worked around various libraries. I had always hated the cold  -having spent my childhood in sun-tropical South Africa – so when the opportunity arose to purchase land at Trinity Beach (about 25 kilometres north of Cairns) I did so in 1984. I eventually got there in 1995 where I spent a number of years caring for my father. I saw the needs of an ageing population – hey guys that’s us! – did some retraining and now work for Queensland Health doing lifestyle support in the surrounding community. Everything in Queensland is “larger than life” but I enjoy it all.

So cheers to all you Mexicans (south of the Qld border) and I do hope you all have a great reunion!

Hi Debbie, I’m sorry we lost contact after all those years of our families being good friends. We are in Coffs Harbour, enjoying retirement and all the distractions that “extra time” offers. Feel free to contact me anytime – I’d love to catch up with you. Cheers, Anne
